Temple Har Shalom Committees

Volunteering for a committee is a fantastic way to engage deeply with the Temple Har Shalom community! We are always in need of support and expertise in various areas. ART- The Art Committee curates and exhibits works of art in diverse media relevant to the world of Temple Har Shalom. In addition, the Committee considers donations of artworks that fit within the THS art guidelines. The Committee welcomes the participation of interested members.

AUDIT- The Audit Committee coordinates with the auditor and Director of Finance to audit the Congregation’s financial statements, books, records, and accounting systems. It also reports its findings and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

BUILDING-  The Building Committee is responsible for coordinating with the Executive Director all strategic matters related to the Synagogue’s building, grounds, and technology, assuring that the physical environment is safe, functional, and attractive.

CEMETERY COMMITTEE- The Cemetery Committee is tasked with overseeing every aspect of planning and constructing the cemetery and its associated facilities, which will be situated between Brookside Road and the creek behind the Temple.

CARING COMMITTEE (HINEINU)- The Caring Committee reaches out to congregational families who are going through an illness or the loss of a loved one and provides assistance and support. Services include transportation to appointments, delivery of meals, and attending to other special requests for congregational members dealing with illness or other special needs.

ENGAGEMENT- The Engagement Committee fosters connections to promote active participation within our community. It recruits new members, assists with their integration into the congregation, coordinates hospitality events to strengthen our sense of community, and cultivates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for both new and existing members.

FINANCE- The Finance Committee is responsible for financial oversight of the synagogue to ensure the synagogue’s finances are managed in a fiscally responsible manner. In conjunction with the Executive Director, the committee prepares, monitors, and, as necessary, revises the annual synagogue operating budget. The committee reviews and monitors the congregation’s assets and liabilities. Additionally, the finance committee reviews and revises financial policies and procedures and provides recommendations on policy changes to the board of directors. The finance committee coordinates with other committees to ensure the synagogue’s sound financial health.

HIGH HOLY DAYS-The High Holy Days Committee handles all the non-religious aspects of the High Holy Days, including hiring cantorial soloists, recruiting volunteers to check in worshippers, distributing prayer books, scheduling congregant readers and usher for services, overseeing communications to the congregation, and planning onegs and any meals such as Break the Fast, and the annual community service project collecting donated items for Jewish Family Service.

INVESTMENT COMMITTEE- The Investment Committee manages and oversees Temple Har Shalom investments in accordance with investment policies established by the Board of Directors.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE- The Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying talented individuals who are committed to the synagogue and willing to put their time and effort into improving our community. Our By-laws provide that this committee consists of one Board member and three members of the community. A proposed slate of candidates is presented to the congregation during the annual meeting for consideration and approval. Board positions are for three years.

RELIGIOUS LIFE- The Religious Life Committee works with our clergy to set up policy and programming relating to religious services and with the Board of Directors to enrich and enhance the ritual life of the congregation. The committee’s dual role includes offering the clergy team ideas and feedback for the congregation’s liturgy. Additionally, the committee works to welcome and encourage participation in the Jewish rituals of Temple Har Shalom.

SAFETY & SECURITY- The Safety & Security Committee helps ensure that anyone who enters the property/building is safe and that our facility is secure. The Chairs collaborate with staff, local law enforcement officials, and safety and security experts with experience at synagogues.

SOCIAL ACTION- The Social Action Committee is responsible for facilitating congregants’ expression of the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) through outreach to the community and efforts to improve the lives of others. The Committee seeks to broaden awareness and engagement in social justice issues at the local, regional, and national levels through programs and activities. TASK FORCE COMBATING HATE AND ANTISEMITISM AND SUPPORTING ISRAEL- Established in the aftermath of October 7th, the task force's mission statement is to identify, plan, and implement initiatives in Park City and beyond combating hate and antisemitism and supporting Israel.
