Class & discussion led by Michael Greenfield with an essay by Joan Didion
Class session: Thursday, September 10th at 7pm
To get a copy of the essay via email, please contact Michael Greenfield.
Joan Didion said, “I write entirely to find out what’s on my mind, what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I’m seeing and what it means, what I want and what I’m afraid of.” Luckily for us, her writing helps us do the same. We’ll use this session to explore the differences between truth and fact and ask questions about how (and whether) we privilege one over the other for ourselves and in our dealings with those around us.
For this conversation, we’ll be looking at one very short (5-page) essay entitled, “On Keeping a Notebook” from her widely available book, Slouching Towards Bethlehem. An audio version of the complete book is also available from Audible read by Diane Keaton (audio chapter 11). Use the link above to request a PDF of just the essay.
