Letter from Board President Bill Oshinsky

When my wife and I moved to Park City almost 12 years ago, one of the most significant factors drawing us here was the Park City Jewish Community.  Since then, we have enjoyed the fruits of the hard work of the founders of the Temple Har Shalom Community.  Thank you to each of those Community members (some still here and sadly some who have passed on) who had the vision to organize this Community and build our Temple.
To me, most inspiring is that we have over 150 children in our religious school and will celebrate 19 B’nai Mitzvah, 5 adult B'nai Mitzvah and 8 weddings this year.  Attending these simchas reinforces why we are doing what we are doing.
Over the last 6 months, the Community has joined together to support the needs of Rabbi David Levinsky and his family and the needs of our Congregation.  A strong staff and active volunteers are central to our success.  We are blessed to have an incredibly hard-working staff and dedicated volunteers.  A huge thank you to those who have stepped up to lead services at the Temple or on the mountain, officiate at B’nai Mitzvah or weddings, and lead Torah study classes, as well as the countless others who volunteer for the THS Board, the Women of Har Shalom, our religious school and various committees.
We are fortunate to announce that Rabbi Batsheva Appel will be joining our Community as of July 1st for a one-year term.  She comes to us from Temple Israel in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was also the interim rabbi.  Please join us on July 7th to welcome Rabbi Appel to our Community.  Thank you to our Interim Rabbi Search Committee and many other members who worked diligently to show Rabbi Appel what our Community has to offer.
We will have two significant celebrations this summer and I hope you will participate.  On July 14th, there will be Burn the Mortgage event celebrating repayment of our Zions Bank mortgage; services will be followed by a cookout, a band and activities for our children.  On August 18, at Shabbat Services, we will honor Sara and Jonathan Klein, at our HaBonim event, for their service to the Community.
In advance, thank you for your continued support of the Community.  The enclosed invoice, which you may adjust up or down, is based on your support last year.  Please consider increasing your level of support.   Our membership commitment information will arrive to all members in good standing the first week of July via email.
